January 2019 Newsletter

The January 2019 Newsletter has been sent to members.

As intimated in the September newsletter, it has been decided that, due to declining support and the problem of recruiting office bearers, the Society should be discontinued.

It has been agreed by the Council that the Society's artefacts, library and funds will be transferred to the Clan Donald Lands Trust, to be used at the discretion of the Trustees and Management Committee.

The Honorary Secretary has confirmed that there will be no requirement on members to pay the annual subscription, as the Society has sufficient funds to cover all necessary expenses.

The Honorary Secretary has expressed her thanks to those of our members who have written, or telephoned, expressing their regrets over the winding up of the Society and their appreciation of the work of the Secretary over many years. Special thanks to Council members who have assisted in difficult time.

Webmaster Note: This website will remain live in the short term, until all formalities have been concluded.

Norman H.MacDonald - Society President

A sad announcement from the Honorary Secretary.

"It is with great sadness that I give notice of the passing, on Friday 13th October, 2017, of the Society's President, Norman H. MacDonald, aged 84, in the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh, after a short illness, following some years of failing health.
In 2014, Norman was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, and from the beginning of 2017, he had a series of falls, culminating in his entry to hospital on September 19th, suffering from pneumonia. Despite initial improvement, he was unable to swallow nourishment due to Parkinson's condition and in the remaining days, he could not communicate.
The funeral will be a private family occasion, at his own request.

Morag Y.MacDonald
Honorary Secretary"
